This project aimed to design a space from the WIKIHOUSE block systems that would tackle social housing issues.
The current housing conditions in Victoria are slow, high-cost, and of poor quality. Holding little to no long-term value.
Therefore, I created a space from the WIKIHOUSE system that contradicted the current state of social housing in Melbourne. Taking inspiration from mid-century modern houses, with a quick and low-cost building method.

The WIKIHOUSE blocks provided a number of opportunities and constraints. But as a low-cost alternative to traditional framing, it outweighed the negative.
To demonstrate that, a property constructed from their blocks could enhance a neighbourhood. I chose a site located in Hawthorn, a well-established suburb in Melbourne with a lot of character already.
With the WIKIHOUSE’s flexibility, I was able to design a Mid-century Modern House, which I thought best represented the character and depth that most modern and social houses were lacking in.
